DEPARTMENT OF SHALAKYA TANTRA

Shalakya Tantra is an important branch of Ayurveda. It concern with diseases occurring in head, neck eye, nose ear, throat and oral cavity. This department concerned with prevention of 'contagious diseases' prevention and promotion aspect of Eye (Netra), ENT (Karna, Nasa & Katha) &Dentistry (Mukha & Danta). Special emphasis of Diagnosis and ayurvedic Treatment procedures like, Tarpana, Nasya, Ajana, Karnadhoopana, Moordh Taila etc. Shalakya Tantra is one part of Astang Ayurveda which deals with the diseases of Urdhav-jatru i.e. body above the clavicle mainly it deals with the diseases of eyes, mouth, nose etc. To treat these diseases Shalaka (Probe) is used. So the subject is called as 'Shalakya Tantra.
